CLCD (Children’s Literature Comprehensive Database)

For over two decades the Company has been dedicated to supporting the library and education community.  Its mission is to provide a reliable, comprehensive children’s literature resource to find books for young readers that will significantly impact their lives.   

Over the years, the CLCD database has expanded its children’s title and supporting data into the most comprehensive PreK-12 children’s literature resource available today. The database ranges from beginning reader, through early childhood, elementary and secondary education including young adult materials. The Children’s Literature Comprehensive Database offers a suite of three products that are designed for schools, public libraries and academic institutions resulting in a “single source, single search” resource for meeting all children’s literature needs. 

Children’s Literature Comprehensive Database

The CLCD database and supporting content includes titles ranging from the 1700s to current releases including most of the children’s books annually introduced by American publishers.   The database includes over one million fiction and non-fiction book and media titles.   The titles include 3.2 million datapoints representing over 600,000 professional reviews from 52 review sources; 1,000 national and international awards representing 95,000 award winners and nominees’ books; 1,000s of regional, state and national best book lists; over 25,000 curriculum links/resources, lesson plans and discussion guides; and 6,000+ author/illustrator links.  The CLCD database is full-text searchable.  Also included are many recommended titles from lists compiled by prestigious organizations such as the National Council of Teachers of English, National Council for Social Studies, National Science Teachers’ Association, and the International Reading Association. It also has annual lists prepared by ALA, YALSA and ALSC as well as reading metrics (Lexile, Scholastic Reading Counts, and Accelerated Reader).

CLCD Enterprise Database 
The Enterprise product includes the over 1 million fiction and non-fiction titles and content of the CLCD dB.  The search features are broad, offering multiple search techniques.  The Key Word Search offers an additional 13 options; the Advanced Search has over 50 search filters; the Power Search includes Boolean query options; the Awards Search has all years of winners and nominees with a brief description and other details.   The Local Collection Management feature matches and uniquely identifies each of the library’s children’s collection titles to the CLCD database.  The user can toggle from the entire database to just your collection with all its supporting content.   The Enterprise dB product makeup is ideal for meeting academic teaching and research needs.  The dB is also an ideal resource for staff research and collection development for public libraries and school districts.    


CLCD QuickFind K-12
The QuickFind database includes the over 1 million fiction and non-fiction titles and content of the CLCD dB.  The search features and graphic displays were carefully created as an ideal Readers’ Advisory tool. Multiple search features are available, however, CLCD’s industry first Topic Search is a central theme of the product that invites the users to explore the world of children’s books.  There are over 400+ carefully selected search topics that lead the user through the database. The Quick Search feature offers Keyword and 5 search terms; the Advanced Search provides 12 additional filters; the Award Search has the years of winners and nominees, with a brief description and other details.  The Local Collection Management feature matches and identifies each of the library’s children’s collection titles to the CLCD database.  The user can toggle from the entire database to just your titles with all its supporting content.  The QuickFind K-12 database is the ideal resource for offering broad content combined with easy-to-use Readers Advisory type features for public access in schools and public libraries.
