Part of Resource Services, the Cataloging & Government Documents Library Assistant II is responsible for the physical processing of library materials in multiple formats accurately. The Library Assistant trains other employees to correctly process library materials, verifying unit processes and standards are followed. This position maintains the Federal Documents print collection and participates in the purposeful downsizing of the physical documents collections.
  
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
 

  • Provide excellent user services

  • Participate in setting and maintaining physical materials processing standards and practices 

  • Train student employees in multiple units to process library materials correctly

  • Share responsibility for removal of items from the library collections

  • Organize and maintain the Federal Documents physical collections

  • Participate in downsizing of the physical documents collections

  • Edit or create bibliographic, holdings and item records in the library management system

  • Ensure documents are properly organized, shelved and findable

  • Collaborate with others on Resource Services and library projects

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Minimum 1 year of library experience or demonstrated customer service experience

  • Able to follow guidelines and directions 

  • Evidence of attention to detail, accuracy and organizational skills

  • Able to learn and build software skills 

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work successfully independently and as part of a team

  • Able to lift 30 pounds daily with or without accommodations
