Position Title: Electronic Resources and Archives Librarian

Institution: William Jewell College, Liberty, Missouri

Reports to: Library Director

FLSA Status: Exempt

The Electronic Resources and Archives Librarian position is a full-time non-instructional faculty professional librarian position and is responsible for activities related to access points, implementation, connectivity, troubleshooting, and holdings maintenance for the library’s electronic resources. The position also manages the College Library Archive and the William E. Partee Center for Baptist Historical Studies areas of operation. This position plays a vital role for the library and the institution in providing access to content owned or accessed by the library.

Duties and Responsibilities

Electronic Resources:

  • Serves as the functional expert on all the library's software, systems, and E-resources, which are essential to user access and discovery.
  • Facilitates access to and troubleshoots connectivity of established electronic resources, including the administration of the OCLC-hosted EZ Proxy, campus IP addresses, the college’s network authentication methods, and vendor authentication methods
  • Establishes and maintains streamlined communications with vendors and the department of Information Technology to ensure efficient and persistent access to library resources
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate holdings and ensuring access to resources in discovery services, full-text finder resources, and other library vendor ERM systems and platforms
  • Manages the department’s back-end system services including, but not limited to, set-up, implementation, and integration in coordination with MOBIUS, the department of Information Technology, and vendor technical services
  • Oversees the management, content development, and maintenance of the library’s website and electronic workflow platforms
  • Co-manages the library’s LibGuides platform to develop online research guides that support the curriculum, resource instruction, and reference services
  • Provides Library Director with statistical data and analysis of resource usage for semi-annual and annual reports and other reports as needed
  • Participates in professional development opportunities to advance knowledge of Library and Information Science principles, best practices, and emerging technologies
  • May assist with the delivery of information literacy instruction as necessary and with locating and accessing print and electronic library resources
  • Other duties as assigned

Archives:

  • Oversees all functions pertaining to identification, access, control, organization, and digitization of archive materials
  • Maintains the integrity of the Archives and Partee Center by identifying materials for accession and de-accession, creates and maintains policies and processes including related documentation
  • Manages the Archives and Partee Center budgets and staffing, including scheduling, project assignment and accountability
  • Assists remote and on-site researchers in advanced/extended research requests in the Archives and Partee Center
  • Develops strategies for large-scale digitization and other projects of selected collections
  • Supports the College’s curriculum and academic scholarship that integrate the use of college archives and external primary source materials
  • Supports the College’s mission and vision through supporting institutional initiatives with historical research, signature events and anniversaries, and departmental projects
  • Collaborates with consortium partners on shared large-scale digitization projects, including serving on the MOBIUS Digitization Committee
  • Seeks and administers grant funding to support significant library archives projects
  • Participates in professional development opportunities to advance knowledge of archival and records management principles, best practices, and emerging technologies
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervision:

Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates student worker staff, makes assignments and schedules

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent analytical skills required for troubleshooting problems

Proficiency in database management and organization of information

Proficiency working with web development platforms and networked systems

Working knowledge of digitization standards and metadata creation/maintenance

Working knowledge of authentication methods for IP and remote access

Proficiency working with Microsoft 365, iOS, and ability to learn specialized software programs

Working knowledge of office equipment including printers, scanners, and copiers

Ability to handle diverse duties with no supervision

Ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Ability to bend, lift and climb

Required Qualifications:

American Library Association accredited master's degree or a graduate degree in a field such as museum studies, archival management, history, or a related area

Five or more years working in an academic library, special library, or archive facility

Minimum two years of supervisory experience

Desired Qualifications:

Two or more years working in a higher education environment

Knowledge of III’s Sierra ILS, Discovery systems, and WorldShare

Working Conditions:

40 hour work week, office environment

Flexible schedule, dependent on the needs of the Department and College

Some weekend and evenings may occasionally be required
