Job Description        

Provides comprehensive service which includes working at the research desk during daytime, evening, and weekend hours; responding to in-person, telephone, chat, and e-mail inquiries and research questions; providing individual and group instruction in the use of paper and electronic resources; teaching research and information literacy skills for courses. Works with the Instruction, Liaison, and Research team to expand services to distance online students and faculty. Adapts to the latest technology to continue to provide meaningful in-time support. Reports to the Manager of Research Services.

Minimum Qualifications      

Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution

Preferred Qualifications

•           Academic or public library experience

•           Strong customer service abilities

•           Strong analytic and problem-solving abilities

•           Strong written and oral communication skills

•           Knowledge of library catalogs, databases, and online resources

•           Teaching experience preferred

Essential Duties        

•           Provides on-demand research help and in-depth consultations and instruction to students, faculty, staff, and other members of the global university community. Works on a rotating basis with other research staff to cover the research desk during the day, evening, and weekend hours for the majority of the hours the library is open.

•           Assists faculty and students with research questions in person at the research desk and in other areas of the library; responds to inquiries over the phone, through email, and online chat.

•           Coordinates with other research staff to cover the research desk during the day, evening, and weekend hours for the majority of the hours the library is open.

•           Develops strong knowledge and expertise with all electronic databases and the library’s online catalog, becoming familiar with intricacies of each tool.

•           Teaches research skills and the use of specific print, electronic, and web-based research tools.

•           Troubleshoots technology issues for patrons who have difficulty accessing library databases in the library, for online students, and for students at the extended sites and international campuses all. Troubleshoots issues with computers/printers/scanners and other library technology and submits IT work orders as necessary.

•           Collaborates with students and staff to provide the clerical support needed for research projects, including: article copying, sorting, and scanning; and requesting copyright permissions.

•           Helps maintain library Research Guides and online Frequently Asked Questions.

•           Strives for continuing professional growth through reading professional journals, attending library, and information-related workshops and training sessions when possible.

•           Serves as a member of the research team and participates in Research Services and library staff meetings when available.
