Introducing Sarah I. Smith, District Dean of Libraries, St. Louis Community College

The St. Louis Community College is pleased to announce the appointment of Sarah I. Smith as the new District Dean of Libraries, effective November 4, 2019.  Dean Smith will be providing strategic leadership for STLCC Libraries college-wide, serving all campuses and education centers. Prior to her appointment, she served as the Director of Library Services and Learning Resources at Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, Tennessee.

Dean Smith’s key areas of professional interest are leadership, responsive and accessible user services, information literacy instruction, strategic planning, and assessment. Her passion for developing student-centered services is aligned with her core values for supporting and promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity. She plans to bring her values and experience to building a team-based system of libraries that promotes a culture of inclusivity and fosters collaboration with internal and external partners.

Dean Smith received her ALA-accredited Master’s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2004. As an active member within her state and national library associations past and present, Dean Smith looks forward to engaging with other librarians in Missouri.
