Job Summary

The Hugh Stephens Library has an opening for a full-time professional Research & Instruction Librarian, who will be responsible for assisting students, faculty, and staff in making effective use of library and other research resources, as well as be responsible for guiding students through the different stages in the research writing process. Duties will include the provision of both in-person and virtual reference assistance, library instruction sessions, and the teaching of multiple sections of ENG 209, Research Writing, a one-credit course taught in conjunction with the College’s Sophomore Global Studies courses.

Job Responsibilities include:

  • Provide research assistance to the Stephens’ Community and broader research community.
  • Assist students and faculty with research databases, web searching, formatting styles such as APA and MLA, and computer applications as necessary to meet information needs.
  • Provide library instruction, tours, orientation sessions, and training in specific resources or disciplines to groups or individuals as requested by members of the faculty and staff.
  • Ability to guide students through the different stages in the writing process for both Composition I and writing intensive courses within majors.
  • Teach multiple sections of English 209, Research Writing, a one-credit course offered four to five times per semester. English 209 focuses on skills necessary for academic research and research writing.  Students generally take ENG 209 their sophomore year and in conjunction with the College’s Global Studies courses, GLS 218 and GLS 219.
  • Serve as liaison to designated academic programs and departments; duties include collection development, instruction, and marketing resources.
  • Foster and develop student information competency skills, including the design and maintenance of instructional materials and online tutorials.
  • Assumes other responsibilities and/or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications include:

  • Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Additional Master’s Degree in English or related field preferred. 
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience assisting students with writing assignments or projects for general education courses or in specific majors.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a patron-focused philosophy.
