MOBIUS Supports Open Access Infrastructure Through SCOSS/Sherpa Romeo

Recognizing that Open Access is an important tool in creating a more equitable system for disseminating scientific research and the importance of supporting the underlying infrastructure that facilitates Open Access publishing, MOBIUS has committed $5000 to support Sherpa Romeo through The Global Sustainability Coalition for Open Science Services (SCOSS) funding structure for OA infrastructure based on a reccomendation from the MOBIUS Electronic Resources Committee.

Sherpa Romeo is an online resource that aggregates and analyses publisher open access policies from around the world and provides summaries of publisher copyright and open access archiving policies on a journal-by-journal basis. This service helps researchers navigate the complexities and differing rights granted under publisher policies, enabling them to select publishers that most align with their needs. Information on this project can be found at https://v2.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/.

Providing support for this resource furthers our strategic planning goal to “continue exploring initiatives in open education and open access.” It also helps ensure that this service will continue to be a benefit to MOBIUS members as they become more involved in supporting Open Access publishing on their campuses over the coming years.

The E-Resources Committee will continue investigating ways that MOBIUS can support Open Access.
